A pregnant woman can pass HIV to her baby while she is pregnant, during or after birth. If she is HIV+, she can access PMTCT (Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission) services where she is given medication before and during the birth, and the newborn is given medication straight after. This greatly reduces the chances of the baby getting HIV. It's important for her to test for HIV early in the pregnancy and to go to Ante Natal Care early in the pregnancy.
